Self care for work from home moms: it almost sounds impossible, right? Self-care is a huge buzzword, but for a mompreneur, the practice might seem downright laughable.
I know what you’re thinking. Come on Vanessa, between the morning rush, cooking, cleaning, taking care of the kids, RUNNING A BUSINESS, bedtime, and finding quality time with my loved ones, I’m lucky to squeeze in a shower. Self-care? Forget it!

I believe self-care is setting time aside to do something for yourself that results in you feeling a little lighter and a lot happier.
Self-care doesn’t mean booking a glamorous spa day every week. Although if you can swing that, you go girl!
Here are some simple, yet impactful ways to care for #1 (that’s YOU, or at least it should be for a few moments each day)!
- Hot shower/bath: I’m not talking about a “30 second, no time for shaving or hair washing, shower”. Schedule this when kiddos are asleep or your spouse is home!. Add some essential oils, and soak.it.in. ahhhh.
- Meditate: if you haven’t tried it…trust me, you want to. Find a quiet place, or even fit it in in the car.
- Exercise: Yoga, kickboxing, running, walking, swimming. Get moving!
- Sleep: Need I say more?
- Read: Self-help, biz Inspiration, cheesy romance novel…whatever is relaxing for you!
- Meet with Friends: self-care doesn’t have to equal alone time.
- Go see a movie: Get that large popcorn while you’re at it …I’m not judging!
Let’s be realistic here. Think about what is doable. Self care for work from home moms may look different than what most gurus preach. And guess what? That’s totally fine!
Start with 15 minutes daily that are devoted to just you. If you don’t have 15 minutes, then we need to be having another conversation, lady!
Here is how to build some precious one-on-one time with yourself into your daily routine:
Whatever your something is, it should fill your bucket. Make it a treat, not a chore. By the way, your something may be doing nothing, and that sounds pretty wonderful to me.
Plan out this time for yourself. Don’t go through your day hoping that 15 minutes will magically appear. If you go the latter route, I can almost guarantee that there will be something there to distract you! Because, well…see daily to-do list above.
Make it a priority. Be kind to yourself. This teeny tiny amount of time each day is important. In fact, it is vital to your happiness. Treat it as such!
Ask for help. Sometimes things just need to be spoken aloud to the universe for them to begin. Maybe you need to hire an assistant. Maybe you need an accountability buddy. Whatever form “help” takes for you, don’t do this alone, sis!
I promise that if you pledge to take this time for yourself, your mental, physical, and emotional well-being will thank you. It’s a small way to better your relationship with yourself and loved ones. And for the simple fact that you. deserve. this.
