The treasure hunt of shopping secondhand is one of my favorite past times. Finding a new or almost new designer item at a bargain basement price is its own kind of magic. I love buying and selling secondhand so much that I figured out a way to turn this hobby into a career, and now I often shop for my style box customers this way!
I may be late to the game, but I am just now falling in love with Poshmark!
It’s an app that literally brings my obsession with buying and selling secondhand items to my fingertips.
When I decided to quit selling LuLaRoe this past summer, I also stopped wearing the product myself. I’ve lost some weight, and I’m wearing the clothes I now offer in my new boutique, so I have spent the past several weeks streamlining my closet and offloading all of the LuLa I know I don’t wear anymore. The Buy/Sell/Trade groups on Facebook are too slow for my liking, and, um, eBay? 1999 called. They said they want their cutting edge website back.
It’s all contained in one app, although there’s a desktop version, too. There’s a social networking component to it. Just like Instagram or Pinterest, you can “like” items, or entire closets and boutiques, and you can share items, which helps you boost the visibility of what you’re selling. They have regularly “parties” – loosely themed items featured in a multi-seller sale – so you can share your items in these parties. One night I cleaned out all the closets, posted our used clothing on Poshmark, and I literally sold every single item I posted within 2 hours!
I’m also a certified boutique on Poshmark now, meaning it’s another avenue for me to sell my new items on.
Poshmark takes 20% commission, which seems steep to some people, but they also take care of invoicing, collecting payment, and shipping for me, which is pretty awesome, coming from someone who used to spend hours every week hunting people down to pay their $40 invoice.
In the past couple of weeks, I have made roughly $750 selling new and used clothing on Poshmark. Not too shabby, considering it takes me just a minute or two to post each item!
If you’d like to shop my closet or my boutique, find me on Poshmark! My username is sparklemommy79 (yeah, I know, outta left field. Sorry about that. Branding fail, that one.)
If you don’t already have the app, you can use code SPARKLEMOMMY79 to get $5 off your first order.
(I also get $5 off my next order when you use it, so thank you in advance!)
By the way – this post isn’t sponsored by Poshmark. I don’t think they have any idea that I wrote this. I just really really love the app.
In the parlance of the Poshmark kids, Happy Poshing, y’all!
