I am head over heels in love with my new bamboo sweatshirt. My boutique sold out of them in a day, and I am going to gush all over bamboo right now!
If you don’t have a bamboo top, dress, whatever – you need one. Like, yesterday.
First of all, it’s crazy soft. You know that t-shirt you have in your pajama drawer? The one you’ve had for 20 years and it’s worn out and perfectly cuddly? Yeah, that’s how bamboo feels when it’s brand new. It’s also hypoallergenic, which means it’s really great for all of you girl-in-the-bubble types, like moi. I get a rash just thinking about rashes, and bamboo is great for sensitive skin like ours.
Secondly, remember when I complained about how stinky I get when I wear polyester? Bamboo would never do you like that. I guess the plant itself has some antimicrobial properties, but there are mixed results on how antimicrobial the clothing really is. Regardless of whether or not your bamboo sweatshirt is going to fight off MRSA, it’s safe to say you won’t offend anyone with your wicked body odor by 4:00 PM on days that you wear it.
Bamboo is three times more absorbent than its cousin, our old pal cotton. It’s truly moisture wicking. Again, you aren’t going to STANK. So that’s awesome.
Besides all of the lovely benefits provided to you, the beautiful wearer of bamboo clothing, it’s also a sustainable choice, so Mother Earth and her inhabitants are grateful.
Bamboo is the fastest growing woody plant in the world. When I was growing up, our neighbors had bamboo growing along their fence for privacy. I can attest to the fact that it grows like a weed. In fact, if my memory serves me, I am fairly certain that my dad actually cursed it as a weed, and eventually gave up trying to keep it out of our backyard. As did our neighbors’ neighbors. And their neighbors. Pretty much we lived in a little bamboo grove within a year.
Bamboo can also survive harsh conditions and doesn’t need a ton of rain, so it’s a superior choice to cotton, and obviously, don’t get me started on synthetic polyester garbage.
And, this incredible fabric is biodegradable! Unlike my itchy, scratchy, non-breathable ex, polyester, bamboo won’t be sitting in a landfill for decades to come, so I don’t feel like a jerk wearing my super duper soft amazing bamboo clothing.
My ethical boutique is up and running, and I am thrilled to be offering some of this luxuriously soft goodness!
